Jogan-ji Temple (Higashiomi City) (成願寺 (東近江市))

Jogan-ji Temple is a Tendai sect temple in Owaki-cho, Higashiomi City (former Yokaichi City), Shiga Prefecture. The sango (literally "mountain name," the title prefixed to the name of a Buddhist temple) is 赤神山. The honzon (principal image of Buddha) is Yakushi Nyorai (the Healing Buddha).

History
The temple's biography says that this temple was founded in 799 by Saicho, the originator of the Tendai sect in Japan, and used to be a huge temple which possessed many tacchu (minor temple). In the Sengoku period (period of warring states), it was embraced by the GAMO clan, and in the Edo period embraced by Edo bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun) with jiryo (temple estate) and so forth being donated.
